Bishop James Memorial Rural Healthcare Centre

A unit of Daughters of Charity Health Service and Charitable Trust

The hospital was inaugurated on 22nd April 2006. It belongs to the congregation of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul whose founders are –St. Vincent de Paul & St. Louise de Marillac. The congregation was started in the year 1633 in France for the service of the poor. In the 17th Centaury it was unheard that a religious sister coming out of their cloister or monastery and rendering service in the streets of Paris. According to the inspirations of our founders, the Daughters of Charity needed to be out in the streets, taking care of the sick poor, reaching out to their homes, taking care of the wounded soldiers and taking care of the galley slaves etc.

In the year 2004 Rt. Rev. late Bishop James Toppo invited the daughters of charity to the diocese of Jalpaiguri to take care of the health service. On 23rd January 2005, the foundation stone for the Hospital was blessed by by His Eminence Cardinal TELESHPORE P. TOPPO, Arch Bishop of RANCHI.

On 22nd April 2006 “Bishop James Memorial Rural Health care Centre” (Hospital) was born and it was inaugurated by His Eminence Cardinal TELESHPORE P. TOPPO, the Archbishop of RANCHI, Emeritus Bishop Joe Rodricks and Rev. Bishop Clement Tirkey along with many other eminent personalities.
